Please don’t tell me I can’t. Please don’t tell me I will never ever make it again. Please do not put me down. You have no idea how difficult it is to be in this situation. If only I could, I would.

Qualm

Instinct VS Qualm

Instinct – a fact or quality of possessing inborn behavior patterns

Qualm – worry, uneasy feeling, having doubts

TRUST your INSTINCT, but never QUALM.

Why? Because it could be a YES or a NO.

Never doubt someone you love, because if you do not trust someone, then you do not love the person.

And then she said, “The pain on my hand as I aggressively slammed the ball over the net of the opponent will soon disappear but the pain that he caused me will forever remain in my heart as I haven’t forgiven him yet”

Most wounds heal after a week or so, but the pain in the heart will remain until the time we learn to forgive, Most people forgive but don’t forget. Some people just forget everything even the people who hurt them. And others, choose to forgive and forget so they can live a happier life.

Measure

©2016 TheAnonymousWritersNotebook

Can you MEASURE love?

“How much do you love me?” – Strong question. 7 out of 10 cannot answer this.

Because if you give an answer to this question, it only means you do not really love a person. Loving someone doesn’t need an answer. Loving someone doesn’t need measurement. You love someone because you love someone. That’s it!

If you say, you love someone because of her almond eyes, if she gets blind will you still love her? You love someone because of her sexy body, if she gets fat will you still love her? You love someone because she’s rich, if she gets poor, will you still love her? Beauty fades away. Personality stays.

Never love someone because of something. Love someone, because you felt it. Nothing more,  nothing less. Regardless of the age, the physical appearance and the family background. You love him because you love him. You love her because you love her.

3 out of 10 people that you will meet will TEACH you, will LOVE you and will LEARN from you. The rest will only USE you, HURT you and FOOL you. Be smart enough to know. So can you MEASURE love? Nope. Regardless if he’s just a friend, she’s a girlfriend, your best friend or your sibling. You can never measure LOVE.

PAUSE

©2016 TheAnonymousWritersNotebook

For today’s daily post challenge, I would like to PAUSE writing stories and discuss this topic below, answering the question, WHY CAN’T WE USE “DISCUSS ABOUT” IN A SENTENCE.

This is also for my students in Japan and Korea.

==========================================================================

Many people are making mistakes in using the expressions DISCUSS and ABOUT in a sentence. They are both used in a different way which can be grammatically correct, but never in one sentence pertaining to the same object.

PART I: DISCUSSION

VERBS can be tricky at times; we just have to analyze them first before we use them so our sentences won’t sound confusing.

TRANSITIVE VERB: when a verb takes a direct object.

Example: The old woman embraced her long-lost daughter.

*embraced – takes daughter as a direct object or the receiver of the action.

INTRANSITIVE VERB: any verb that does not take a direct object.

Example: The daughter was embraced tightly.

*no direct object in the predicate

DISCUSS

  • verb
  • to talk about (something) with another person or group of people.
  • Talk over, talk about, talk through, converse about, debate (synonyms)

* GRAMMATICALLY, “Let’s discuss the issues” (is correct) since it is a transitive verb.

There are some people who MAKE MISTAKES in using the expression “LET’S DISCUSS ABOUT….”

This is an example sentence from New York Times, dated November 24, 2006, and I quote:

“On average, Kelley Fay finds that people DISCUSS ABOUT a dozen brands each day.”

Is it grammatically correct or not?

NOPE! IT ISN’T GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT. Here is how a reader should read the sentence.

“On average, Keller Fay finds that people DISCUSS (about a dozen) brands each day.”

WHY? Because “about a dozen” is a PHRASE, that is like saying “approximately 12”

QUESTION: Then why shouldn’t we use “DISCUSS ABOUT” in a sentence?

ANSWER:

There are 2 REASONS why we cannot use “ discuss about” in a sentence.

  1. It is already redundant since DISCUSS means to talk about. So it is like saying “Let’s talk about-about the issues.”
  2. It requires the topic for discussion to be both object of the verb and object of the preposition, which is grammatically impossible.

Example conversation:

1.

A. Let’s talk about this.

B. Talk about what?

A. Talk about the issue.

2.

A. Let’s discuss this.

B. Discuss what?

A. The issue.

PART II: VOCABULARY

  1. Verb – a word used to describe an action
  2. Transitive Verb – a verb that requires one or more objects
  3. Intransitive Verb – has no object
  4. Phrase – group of words (or a single word) that function/ functions as a constituent in the syntax of a sentence.
  5. Discuss – to talk about
  6. About – proposition; on the subject of/concerning
  7. Redundant – adjective; not or no longer needed or useful
  8. Proposition – a word or group of words that indicates/indicate location, or some relationship between a noun or a pronoun.

PART III: EXERCISE

Write C if the sentence is correct, and I if incorrect.

  1. She will discuss about the issue tomorrow.
  2. The professor will discuss Management this afternoon.
  3. Ching wants to discuss about your salary later.
  4. I will discuss the lesson next week.
  5. Patty wants to talk about the argument on Monday.
  6. Cathy will never discuss about why she can’t attend the meeting on Sunday.
  7. Carla isn’t ready to discuss that with the team.
  8. My boss called our attention and discussed about the drastic change in the schedule.
  9. Jenny will talk about the salary deduction to the teachers.
  10. She wants to know if you can discuss it before she leaves.

ANSWERS:

  1. She will discuss about the issue tomorrow. (I)
  2. The professor will discuss Management this afternoon. (C)

Territory

©2016 TheAnonymousWritersNotebook

“I am nobody’s territory”

I am nobody’s territory,  and so is he.

You are your life’s fulfillment,

even if you believe in endearment,

You owe nobody, except your family

So you don’t have to explain yourself to anybody.

Life is full of surprises,

believe me nobody has seen even the coming of the ISIS,

You just have to be thankful, and always be grateful.

Because life can always give you; an unexpected issue.

I am nobody’s territory, and so is he.

Enjoy every moment,

and treat yourself as your only opponent.

Be better than what you were yesterday,

because your life can never be replayed.

If you die tomorrow,

make sure to find the way out of your sorrow.

I am nobody’s territory, and so is he.

He can never hurt me, but only God can foresee.

I am nobody’s territory, and so is he.

Same goes to you, and your best friend too.

The sister of your classmate, the brother of your playmate.

We are nobody’s territory, except God who has the power to end your story.

Friends.. Meaningless

©2016 TheAnonymousWritersNotebook

“I love him”… The last words I heard from her.

While she kept on telling me that she loves him, hearing all our friends shouting and making her understand that she’s not supposed to be loving that kind of person and that she has to leave him. I stood up in the crowd and spoke gently. “Yes, we love our friend and we care for her. Yes, it is our responsibility to make her understand that this guy is stupid and that she needs to break up with him. Yes, we should and must look after each other once in a while. We are her friends, yes. But we also have to consider that we are just her friends. We can never decide for her. Everything that we say, enters the left ear, passes through the mind and leaves on the right ear. If her heart is telling her to stay, her mind can never instruct or command her body to do otherwise, only because the heart is more powerful than her mind. We can never tell someone to leave the person who gives her pain especially if that person is the same person who gives her happiness. All we can do is listen and support.” And then I looked at her, “You got 10 people, 9 telling you to leave and 1 person, as I may stand to that, who will not ask you to leave him, but instead I’m telling you to SAVE SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF, DEAR. You are beautiful in and out. You have given him your 99%, save at least 1 for yourself. By the time, you get to understand that your life is more MEANINGFUL, and you get to love yourself more, that’s the time you’d get the point of having a MEANINGLESS commitment with someone you do not deserve. Let your heart decide.

ACCEPTANCE (Daily Post Challenge) MARCH ISSUE (The featured article of the month) The Dancing Baker

©2016 TheAnonymousWritersNotebook

“I’m gonna pursue my dream and I’m gonna get it step by step. Maybe little by little but atleast I know where I am going. This is the path that I chose and I know it is not too late. I’m gonna get over this quarterlife crisis really soon”

                                                                                             -Pau Cabrega-

Who would’ve have thought at an early age, this young beautiful woman has already experienced a lot in life? Fell in love twice, got hurt, stumbled, got wounded, broke her heart three times, cried many times, became a failure once and so. But what made her really strong was when she stood up and told herself that she can make it!

13343097_10209210229593762_7897485692099582881_n.jpg

This is Pauline. Peers call her Pau. She is from the Philippines. Grew up in a wealthy, loving family, Pau, as the eldest, never felt the pressure from her very supportive parents. She grew up enjoying the adventures of life.

Having her own car, traveling abroad, learning the art of baking, joined and won in a pageant, gave a shot at a dancing club representing her country all over the world and alike.

Everyone thinks she is living the life of a perfect daughter. But she is just a human. She gets hurt, she tumbles down and she cries at every single moment of heartaches. She was once a failure herself. Got hurt by several men who were so stupid for not seeing the best in her. Until one day, she woke up, opened her eyes slowly, looked at the ceiling and whispered… “I can do this!”

She got up, picked her broken self together and showed people that she can be better than what she was yesterday.

And now, she is the manager of the family business located in Pagsanjan Laguna, Calle Arco.

Which is the most visited restaurant of celebrities in the Philippines and foreign countries.

14449759_10154336857730412_6254276318869627913_n.jpg

Bakes sweets and pastries, learning the art of everyday life and has already found the love of her life, who happened to be a chef as well.

You see, when you commit mistakes, you get hurt, you see yourself down and in trouble, you don’t end everything there. You must get up, and accept that life doesn’t stop there. Nobody is perfect and we don’t just learn everything by reading, we also learn things by experience.

Acceptance, Learning, and Execution are some of the things that we should consider in life to get us going.

Stylish

And then I asked myself, “Do I really look old? Am I not allowed to wear these fashionable clothes anymore? Don’t I look respectable with what I wear?”

And then I learned that even if I grow older than now, I still can wear the clothes that I want.. It depends on how I carry myself in front of other people. It depends on how I showcase my talent and skills.

Just like this doddering stamping ground that you see here. It may look old, but it certainly shows its own style. It is very classy.

See, we have our own style and unique personality. We can be STYLISH anytime. We just have to make sure that we can carry ourselves perfectly in front of other people.. HOW? Be CONFIDENT.

Silence

©2016 TheAnonymousWritersNotebook

The AIRPORT… A place of runways and buildings for the take-off and landing of air crafts. A place where smiles can be seen welcoming your loved ones and tears for those who are about to leave their dearests. A place where you can hear the noise of people crying and laughing together, music being played around, the announcement of the flights and the sound of the landing and departing airplanes. Do we hear SILENCE here? Does the airport close on holidays? Do they also take a rest?

Airports do not close on holidays. Employees work and earn money but also experience leaving their loved ones just to be able to serve us. Now take a look at this picture and pretend that you can make these people stop in a snap. Feel the magic. What do you see? What do you hear? SILENCE. Because at one point in time, even if there is noise around you, even if the surrounding is colorful, we still need to stop and feel the SILENCE in our hearts. To thank the Lord for another day and to be grateful for everything that we have.

The AIRPORT, a place of both sadness and happiness. Noise and SILENCE.
